Jane Not So Plain

A DIY Destination for Sewing, Crafting and Fashion

A Little Sneak Peek, A Little Info

It’s been very busy around my tiny apartment little home! In between Father’s Day, a wedding, a baptism and a couple birthdays, I have still somehow managed to work on some projects. So, be prepared for lots of pictures and tutorials in the very near future!

Damson Feathers from Serenade by Kate Spain for Moda

One of the projects in the works is for my niece who turns 3 this week. I found some yummy fabric at Jackmann’s, my favorite local fabric store. Keep an eye out for the finished project at the end of the week.

Without further ado, here is More About Me Mondays

1. I love Patsy Cline. My favorite song of hers is “Crazy.”

2. I have really awesome friends. They are all very talented in their respective fields, which span the spectrum. We have teachers, sales women, a hair stylist, a news anchor, and graphic designer, just to name a few. I like to think that we’re pretty cool.

3. I could spend literally all day watching marathons of Criminal Minds (I’m lookin’ at you, Shemar Moore!) and Law & Order: SVU (isn’t Mariska Hargitay just beautiful?).

A Few More Tidbits

It’s that time again…More About Me Mondays!

1. Although I am a self-proclaimed “Domestic Diva,” I HATE doing the dishes. I prefer the trying new recipes and DIY projects side of domesticity (is that even a word?). Thankfully, my saint of a boyfriend helps in the dirty dishes department.

2. Speaking of my saint of a boyfriend… His name is Kyra, and he is a true Renaissance Man. He is a talented singer and songwriter. He is an amazing cook, a personal trainer, and is going to school for ultrasound. I honestly think he is good at anything he tries (I also may be a little biased :)).

3. I graduated from the University of Missouri. I will forever be a Tiger fan and proud supporter of the Black & Gold. MIZ!

4. Moths freak me out, but butterflies are beautiful.

5. I am starting grad school in August. You will probably hear lots about this journey over the next couple years.

How Do You Define Yourself?

So, I was reading through my Google Reader RSS feed, and I came across a really interesting post from Deborah of Whipstitch Fabrics. It basically discusses what to call someone who sews. Obviously, on paper, “sewer” looks like a place where waste water goes, not one who sews. Sewist is a made-up word that needs to be defined more often than not. And, seamstress seems (pun completely intended haha) not to allude to modern techniques and creativity.

I started thinking about it. People who craft are crafters, people who DIY are DIYers, the list could go on. Here’s what the Whipstitch community came up with for people who sew: Seamster. It’s a play on seamstress that is gender neutral. I like it, and I think I am going to adopt it, too.

More About Me Mondays

Click on the swatch to see Pantone’s many shades of purple!

I find myself being drawn more to blogs that give insight to the person (or people) behind the posts and projects. So, I would like to introduce “More About Me Mondays!” This fun little series will be full of quirky tidbits of information so that you all can get to know me a little better.

1. My favorite color is purple. It has been since I was a little girl. My almost 3-year-old niece’s favorite color is also purple, so we have lots of conversations about how much we love it.

2. I have a dog named Shanny. She is a white schnauzer, and she is the sweetest thing ever. I adopted her 2 years ago, which was a complete blessing.

3. I wear my socks inside out. Weird, I know.

4. I have tried out to be an NFL cheerleader twice. I haven’t made it yet, but I am going to keep trying.

5. I have an affinity for bad reality TV (which reminds me there is a new episode of the Bachelorette on tonight…). I don’t know what it is that seems appealing about it, but I easily get sucked in.

Purse Palooza 2012

Throughout the month of June, Sara from Sew Sweetness is hosting Purse Palooza 2012. This is an awesome event that features a ton of pattern reviews, giveaways and a Flickr contest. In honor of Purse Palooza 2012, I made a reusable grocery bag.

I am a regular contributor over at Totally Stitchin’, a community for sewing inspirationalists. Read more about my reusable grocery bag in my post on Totally Stitchin’.

Jane Not So Plain Logo

Hi! I put together a logo to represent JNSP across the web. What do you think?

*As a side note, I created the image so that the background color of the blog design and the logo design were the same, but when I uploaded the JPEG to WordPress, it changed the colors. Weird.
